I couldn’t care less about “Panoramic Roofs”.
It’s not even about the weight. I don’t get any enjoyment out of having just the shade open, or my regular sunroof open. With the shade open it lets a little extra light in, with the sunroof open, the wind noise makes listening to podcasts/music less enjoyable. Is there something magical about a glass roof twice or 3 times the size that I‘m missing out on??

Im not a fan of sunroofs generally so my opinion is tainted, but we put roofs on cars for a reason, letting those reasons back in on purpose? pass.

Sunroofs and panoramic sunroofs are extremely overrated. I think they look stupid and are pointless.
Plus, you always have the rollover concerns.

my last car to have a sunroof was my first car, a 85 sentra wagon way back in 1995.
I never wanted or needed a sunroof.

agree - first, I don’t fit with sunroofs in many cars; second, they are heavy; third, they can leak; fourth, they are hot. For me, they are one of those things that sound cool initially, but in practice are less enjoyable.

I agree with you. Sunroofs in general are stupid. Why pay more to ruin your car’s center of gravity, add mechanical complexity, and reduce interior headroom? Panoramic sunroofs are even dumber, especially here in Arizona where the sun is a giant oven.

I like my sunroof when the weather is right for it, but when it isn’t open, the shade is closed. I think panoramic roofs let in too much sun.

That and certain ones seem to shatter inexplicably. My biggest concern is more surface area for leaks to form. My sunroof already leaks if I go thru a car wash with high enough pressure. (I mean theoretically, we all hand wash right?)

I love driving in hot weather with the sunroof open blasting in some fresh air and turning up the radio to counter the noise. But I get it’s not for everyone. And the massive ‘panoramic’ version... I have no need for. I don’t like sunroofs because in smaller cars you lose headroom, and I’m tall so that matters, but if it can be done I really like them. My current car doesn’t have one so I’m sad.

I’m not a big fan of sunroofs in general, but every car I’ve owned has come with one standard, so I’ve dealt.

It gives me the anti-claustrophobic effect of having a tan interior, but without a tan interior.
Sounds minor, but with so many black interiors, I usually feel like I’m in a goth funeral and I’m the guest of honor.

I love them, and those who ride with me love them.
Having the sunshade open makes the cabin feel bigger. I love it in my allroad, couldn’t imagine not having it. We test drove a couple of Macan S’ recently, one without the panoramic sunroof and one with. We decided the sunroof was a must.
The amount of wind noise depends entirely on the design of the car and the air deflector. One nice breezy socal days I love driving the allroad with the windows open and the sunroof opened all the way, and remarkably things stay very quiet and there is very little wind noise.

eh, I like the feeling of space.
then again, I’m used to riding bikes, and even a minivan with a MASSIVE green house makes me a little claustrophobic.

full glass roofs are sealed like a regular metal roof.
the sunroof portion is still the same.

I was thinking about it and you’re right... I think that I’ve used mine less than 10 times... I do like convertibles, but the pano in my car is unbearable at any speed above 80km/h

In the dark dreary area where I live, I love having a sunroof, especially pano. It really helps brighten things up inside in this time of modern cars with thick pillars and often dark interior colors. If I lived in a sunny climate, I might feel otherwise, as on a MB, the pano roof cover is translucent cloth, and doesn’t completely block the light. But here, I will take it. Never heard of rollover concerns on a MB with one, nor leaks. There are reports of rattles, usually solved by tightening some bolts.
What does make me snicker are the bros who put black wraps on their roof to simulate the pano look.

Nor should you care about them, because all they do is leak and become obscenely expensive to fix later. Stupid things.

I like a panoramic roof. I suppose it depends how it’s done.
Vauxhall did it well with the Astra.

What kind of roof?
But I actually really liked my sunroof in the SC. Made the interior feel and be brighter. If I ever spec a car from new I’d really consider a pano roof.

Having a sunroof is kind of neat. Crack it open for a little ventilation, open the cover for a little extra light, open it and all the windows for a pseudo convertible feel.
But I’ve never really missed the sunroof when I didn’t have it, so absolutely not a requirement for me.

I don’t think I’d ever buy a car without a sunroof. I haven’t actually driven one with a panoramic roof, but I suspect I’d like it. Getting that extra light and air in is wonderful, while still retaining some of the practicality you lose with a convertible.

Alright, I’m going to open the shade and leave it open for a week to see if I change my opinion of it. I know it won’t be good in the summer, but it’s supposed to rain almost everyday for the next week here. Who knows, maybe I’ll convert to the “light” side.

Panoramic sunroof came with the car - I wanted the heated seat more..
It’s a fun idea but we don’t use it ever.

I always leave the cover of the sunroof open to let in a little more light (in part because I like black interiors, and my M-B in particular is black on black on black on black). I really liked having a panoramic roof in my SQ5—it was probably my favorite feature. The cloth cover for it kept the glare off on sunny days, but still let in a little light.
ETA: See fintail ’s comment—I live in the same dreary climate as he does.

If you live in a dreary climate, you’ll notice. It doesn’t seem to matter as much in old cars, which rarely have sunroofs, but also have more glass and thin pillars, lower beltlines, etc.
Usually from mid-fall through spring, the shade for pano on my car is open all the time.

I can’t stand them. Let us just add water leak issues to not having flip over protection. Good job guys

They are great! They let much more light into the cabin, getting rid of the depression in most bleak interiors nowadays. They make it feel much roomier inside, and it’s just a nice view to have.

Even when you park at work? I know I would close mine anytime I parked for an extended period of time (to prevent sun bleeching the interior).

Fortunately, I park in a dark garage at home and work.
I live in WA. For 8-9 months a year, sun is just a fun memory.
